With Halloween being (checks watch) today, I thought it was high time we did a deep dive into one of my favorite books for the season – Cereal by Mark Russell and Peter Snejbjerg.
Count Chocula, or The Marquise de Coco, as he’s known here is the lead in a story that will eventually involve engaging and thoughtful parodies of Franken Berry, Boo Berry, Lucky the Leprechaun and many more figures from the world of breakfast cereals.
More than a simple parody, Russell tackles surprisingly deep themes of corruption, responsibility, and the horrors those with power will commit in to serve what they believe to be the greater good. The book is a tragedy filled with humanistic insights, but it’s sugar coated with the monster cereal theme, helping it go down so delightfully.

In other news, my intrepid co-host, Erik’s new novel An Echo of a Memory releases on October 31 – and he’s got a deal on the first book in the series All the Brittle Pieces for one more week. Check it out over on Amazon while the deal is still on!
Finally, with less than two months to go before Avengers: Doomsday, we react to the additional footage added to the recent theatrical release of Avengers: Endgame. We have serious (and not-so-serious) thoughts on what each of the four new scenes means for the future of the MCU.
