Day 1 (and a half) of San Diego Comic Con 2020 is in the bag, and it’s a real treat to have these panels available for a virtual con experience.
On the latest podcast, Michael and I talk about the “must have” surrounding experiences for an honest-to-goodness virtual convention. You’ll never be able to replicate the experience of standing in line for three hours to hope for a glimpse of Don Cheadle in Hall H, but there are some things you definitely can do to enhance your own “at home” Comic Con experience.
In addition, we talk about some of the panels we’ve already seen, including the sure to be hilarious upcoming comedy series “Truth Seekers”, starring Nick Frost and Simon Pegg – debuting on Amazon Prime Video this fall. \
We hope you’ll join us this weekend. With only about 100k passes issued this year, SDCC is one of the hardest tickets to get, so to be real, this is the closest some people will ever get to experience the glory of SDCC.
All panels are available for viewing on YouTube after they air, so if there’s something you missed, there’s still time for you to grab a pretzel dog, camp out on your carpet, and enjoy the fun!
Plus, as promised, here’s another flashback cosplay from an SDCC from years gone by.
Today’s the big day. Open registration for San Diego Comic Con 2014. For all those waiting in line, hoping to get a badge today, here’s my recap of the best stuff from SDCC 2013.
Best Art I Bought
Got this lovely Doctor Who Print from Sara, along with an original piece – Amelie:
You might recognize this art Mike did for me at SDCC.
Tournament of Nerds: Live
The World’s End – The panel featured Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright talking about the movie for an hour. It doesn’t get much better than that.
Ode to Nerds – You can read more about it, but this was the biggest surprise to me at SDCC 2013. Charlie Jane Anders was a delightful moderator, and the panelists were intelligent and encouraging. I hope to see more panels hosted or featuring io9 staffers at SDCC 2014.
You can see the rest at my SDCC Cosplay page.

Best Comics I Bought
Love and Capes TPB #1
Thomas Zahler is quite a nice guy, in addition to being a very talented writer and artist. I reviewed this TPB here.
Atomic Robo #1-6
Another great find from a terrific publisher – Red Five. Reviewed here.
Vision and Scarlet Witch (Vol 2) #1-12
And to wrap this all up, how can I resist?
Thanks, and good luck to all!
So, back to the business of San Diego Comic Con recaps. Friday was Hall H day for me. And if that doesn’t strike fear into your heart and get your adrenaline pumping, you’ve never been to San Diego Comic Con. Since Friday was Hall H day, that meant I needed to get out of bed around 3:30 am. Read the rest of this entry
