At the very beginning of this issue, we meet Wanda’s sister, Polaris. Polaris has come to help Wanda figure out what the stone is from issue 1. Polaris discovers that the stone is not actually a stone, it’s an unstable ore with magnetic properties. They make little progress before the Last Door opens once again, but no one walks through, or so they think. A microscopic warrior named Mardj needs help. Her home, Tryfa, was invaded by the Nillans, and she is the only survivor. However, not all hope is lost. Mardj is in search of the Sword in the Star, which is a living blade used to carve her world. Wanda and Polaris join Mardj on her quest to find the sword. They eventually find where it was, after a tumultuous adventure. Since the sword is no longer there, Mardj feels defeated. But, Wanda and Polaris create a new sword, which helps Mardj drive the Nillans out of her city and honor the dead Tryfans. Wanda and Polaris return to the shop only to find it’s engulfed in flames. Scythia has come to take Darcy and challenges Wanda to make the next move, which is where this issue ends.

Overall, I thought this issue was pretty good. The introduction of new characters throughout this series is what keeps it interesting, but I’m beginning to notice that the plot of each of these comics follows a similar pattern. While that would normally be boring, there’s a new person in need each time, which creates an opportunity to introduce a new setting, and there’s also the subplot of Darcy’s debt to Scythia. I’m interested to see where the next issue goes. Will Wanda go fight Scythia in an attempt to get Darcy back? What happened to the Last Door after the fire? We’ll find out in the next issues!
